Countdown to EVS 2008!

Last month delegates, including Danuta Jędrzejewska-Szmek and Chris Grzesik from Poland, met in St Petersburg to elect a new Chairman of The European Group of Valuers' Associations (Tegova), Roger Messenger from the UK's Institute of Revenues, Rating and Valuation. Roger Messengers election follows a long period of political debate about the future direction of Tegova. That debate is now over with the consensus being in favour of focusing on the "valuation of real estate" with Tegova's core activity as a standard setter taking pole position.

In this connection the General Assemby endorsed a first draft of European Valuation Standards (EVS) prepared by Professor David Mackmin of Sheffield Hallam University. The draft EVS will be posted on the Tegova website www.tegova.org during a six month period of consultation. Tegova Board member Chris Grzesik, has been entrusted with the responsibility of overseeing the launch of EVS in early 2008.

The General Assembly also gave support to a pilot project, currently being undertaken by valuers is France and Poland, which will lead to the establishment of a "Recognised European Valuer" title for valuers who have met minimum educational, experience and practice criteria as defined by Tegova.

The next Tegova General Assembly will be held in Hamburg on 29th September.

The Polish Federation of Valuers' Associations was chosen as the host of the subsequent General Assembly in Warsaw on 31 May 2008.
